Community Development

With years of experience in central Haiti, it has become apparent that most disease conditions are related to poverty and economic underdevelopment, and that further progress in reducing the burden of disease will be dependent on economic and social development. The hospital's Division of Community Development seeks to empower Haitians through several programs:

Wells and Water, to provide clean potable water for households and irrigation to expand food production.

Animal Husbandry, to immunize domestic animals and provide training for livestock care.

Ti Jardin (small gardens), to build skills in agriculture, production, reforestation and soil conservation

Microenterprise, to offer district women training and small loans to begin credit groups and business ventures and provide economic independence.

Other programs provide low-cost water filters, and fuel briquettes from plant residue.
